I let my kids leave their toys all over the living room floor.
Yes, it is annoying at times. And yes, it makes my whole house look sloppy. And yes, it has taken me some time to get to a point where I can handle it...at least for a few days.
You're probably wondering what in the world has possessed me to allow such chaos. Well, here it is.
My children don't say, "I'm bored" as often. They don't count on me to entertain them. And they completely forget about watching TV.
Allowing them to keep their toys out for a few days encourages them to play and pretend. There's just something about already having things out that helps them go back to playing each day (especially Chaz). It's like they forget they have a gazillion toys when everything is all put away in its proper place.
In fact, here's my living room right now.
This is pretty mild because it is the first day of our fun mess. And yes that is a high heel shoe in the middle of the floor. Channing wanted to draw Cinderella's glass slipper and needed to look at a real shoe for inspiration. :)
I'll be honest. It does start to bother me after a few days. I think 3-4 days is usually my max (Brad's max is surprisingly less than mine). Then we clean everything up and start fresh the next day.
It has taken me awhile to learn that the toy chaos is not the end of the world. And I know I will miss these days when they are gone. That's what I keep telling myself anyways. ;)
