Today I took both children to the dentist. By myself. This was Chaz's first time ever and Channing's first time in several years.
I feel mostly out of that 'survival mode' stage in life where this routine task is absolutely impossible and super undesirable to do alone. But I was still a nervous mommy going into this appointment solo with a 4 year old and a 6 year old. I gave myself a pep talk and off we went. The three of us. I can proudly say that only 1/3 of us cried. And I can neither confirm nor deny that I might be the one who shed some tears.
Luckily we LOVE, LOVE, LOVE our pediatric dentist. And it doesn't hurt that she looks like a Disney princess. Princess Jasmine to be exact. I mean, look at these sweet faces!
This is his Mom-I'm-trying-to-concentrate-and-be-brave face! |
And here's the dentist pro. She's got this! |
Sadly, one of these smiling faces has a cavity and has to go back for 'treatment.' Sigh. #momfail
Despite my mom fail, the wonderful ladies at our dentist office assured me that it will all be ok and it is indeed NOT the end of the world because of one cavity. We shall see about that.
I wonder if insurance will cover laughing gas for this mama that day too??? Nope, didn't think so.
Also, should you happen to see these sweeties out and about, please don't mention the 'cavity incident' as we shall call it from here on out. Our dentist prefers to talk to her patients about their 'treatment' on the day they receive it. It's like a little present from the dentist to this Simple Mama. #momwin
I always knew Princess Jasmine was one of my favorites.
We recently had a visit with our Disney Princess dentist in her new (and closer!) office. Later that evening I got a text to submit a review of our experience with her. Honestly, I usually ignore such requests because mama doesn't have time for that, but I made time for this one because we adore her so. I clicked on the link and it took me to her Facebook page to leave a review. And what did I see? Yep, you may have guessed it. Her. Being a Disney Princess.
Ok, so she really isn't a Disney Princess, but rather Sparkle the Tooth Fairy. Y'all. She dresses up and goes to schools and day cares to educate kids about caring for their teeth. Seriously. I want to just put her in my pocket. She is so cute. And she really is that sweet with our kids. And me. Because let's face it. Mama needs someone to sweetly remind me to help my kids floss between their back teeth.

It seems to me that they’ve got things under control. Haha! It’s great that you're taking them to the dentist regularly for a checkup, so that you can get updates on their dental health. It's too bad about the cavity, though. I hope everything went well with the next visit. Thanks for sharing this with us. Take care!

Awe! Thanks Anita!! The 'cavity visit' went WAY better than I expected. Sadly, the dentist found 2 more cavities (tear) so we go back again next week. Praying that this visit goes as well. We are never waiting over a year to go to the dentist again!! I already have their next cleaning appointments scheduled and on the calendar!! :)
DeleteWow, it seems like both of them took on this situation quite well, especially Chad. It’s pretty evident that he was focused and serious about this. Anyway, about the cavities your dentist found, were you able to have them fixed already? I hope things are doing better for them now. Thanks for sharing!

Hi Bettye! Yes, our dentist fixed those cavities right up! Whew...glad that is over with! ;)
DeleteHaving a dentist that you love, and the fact that kids look like they actually enjoy her, makes all the difference. Dressing up like a Disney princess is great for kids who are nervous about seeing the dentist. Glad you got the kids back on the road to healthy teeth; they will definitely appreciate it more when they get older.
