Let's Pretend

Those have been my favorite little words this week. Let's pretend.

We have just finished our first official week of summer and it has been glorious. We swam, played softball in the front yard, went bowling, grilled out, had a living room slumber party, ate breakfast on the trampoline, stayed up late, and slept in late (I've been waiting 6 years for my children to sleep late consistently-I am beyond thrilled that this day has come!!). Oh and we have done a lot of nothing too. It has been wonderful.

But my favorite part of this week by far has been hearing my children say these words to each other. Let's pretend.

They have imagined and played pretend all week together. All week. And they have actually gotten along. They have built cities, been made-up characters, opened a cupcake shop (it's only open in the summer in case you were wondering), and countless other adventures that I can't possibly begin to describe to you (mainly because I was ignoring them-they tend to pretend better when I stay out of it).

This makes my heart happier than anything...to see kids being kids.

Now of course as I sat down to write this they broke out into a giant squabble about who-knows-what. This is when it's my turn to pretend...that the argument didn't happen. I'll choose to remember the 7 previous days of bliss instead.

Here's to a summer filled with 'Let's Pretend.'
